SUZANNE RAE Fall/Winter 2013

The Philippine Center, NYC

Brooklyn based designer Suzanne Rae Palaez looked to the service industry for inspiration in a sartorially sense---a dedication "that involves giving aid to those in need; to serve the greater good that is humanity....the modest clothing of missionary monks, priests and nuns...the silhouettes and linear geometry of their robes..."

A minimalist aesthetic of mostly neutral tones-cream, white, black grey...with autumnal rust and winter prints-translated into quietly sophisticated long trousers, soft blouses, cozy cocoon shaped coats and blouson jackets, long to the ankle dresses --- with some comfy zero-waste knitwear--- in collaboration with knitwear designer Lindsay Degan.

It was -to quote the run of shows---an "effort to make thought provoking clothing that encourages women the kind of confidence that encourages love and goodness..."

Loose but elegant separates in georgette, wool and flannel---a collection that seems the antithesis of look
at me clothing---

Interesting....and wearable...we always admired this young designer for her strong point of view...and her tailoring skills too.
