Make-up How-To Video- Maybelline New York

It amazes us ---but really shouldn't...how a week full of a lot of late nights---doesn't mean late mornings----as witnessed backstage at The Studio/Lincoln Center at 7AM-for hair (L'Oréal Professionnel), Make-up/Nails (Maybelline)...a hive of busy bees in full get ready mode...since an hour earlier.

The metaphor---appropriate- given that the twisted up bun in the back was "inspired by a honeycomb which has a complex tiered texture that reflects the choice of layering and textures in the collection," according to lead stylist, Amit Abraham.

IMO: what we would call editorial hair---in ode to the glamorous ensembles---specifically:

" Man Ray's evocative photographs of his muses Kiki du Montparnasse and Lee Miller provide the inspiration for the Bibhu Mohapatra FW13 collection. A modern take on 1930s silhouettes, with subtle nods to the Dada movement and Bauhaus shapes, pieces are simultaneously architectural and softly liquid."

Multiple steps---with L'Oréal Professionnel products---included protecting tresses with the Mythic Oil Reinforcing Milk (USA$32)....then tie-ing back a big section hair in a low ponytail, with loop elastics every few inches down the length of it---then that part of the hair wrapped into a low bun using True Grip Texturizing Powder ($25)---to keep the style in place.

crimping hair takes patience-
Copious amounts of Infinium 3 Hairspray ($24) got sprayed used all over tresses--- before rest of the hair was crimped---every inch or so...into finger waves---then loosely pulled back over the bun...to the effect of the front part being a face framing bob...if the model's hair was long enough---or simply let loose if hair was not long enough to pin back.

And THEN even more hairspray (mercifully, there's pretty good ventilation back there)...with the crowning touch---Perfect Shimmer ($21) used for just that.

before-straight hair-blown out-straight!

After-crimped hair...in a back bun

before- straight hair
after-hair crimped into low bun---side pieces let loose into finger waves

shows---what part of hair went in low pony tail/bun---with slightly more than the crown-divided into section for crimping
Infinium Hairspray 3...used all the time
hair crimped about every inch...into finger waves by wrapping around inch wide curling barrel

one strand at a time-crimping took a awhile to do

MAKE-UP lead artist Charlotte Tilbury-for Maybelline- captured the spirit of the 30's sensuality of hand tinged photographs ...with some glistening (Shine Sensation in Misty Sheer) over a subtle"smoky eye" done in brown tones-using Studio Color Tattoo 24 Hour Creme Gel Shadow in Bad to Bronze...topping off lashes with Colossal Volume mascara ---balancing the lips in a deep rosy-burgundy color-using SuperStay 14 Hour Lipstick in Wine And Forever.

everyone has a few shadows at that hour---Dream Lumi™ Touch Highlighting Concealer used

Dream Fresh BB 8-in 1 Beauty Balm-as foundation, Dream Bouncy Blush in Rose Petal on cheek apple -mixed with Coffee Cake applied-all the way up to the eyes---for a youthful look...FitMe Pressed Powder for no-shine

subtle"smoky eye" done in brown tones-using Studio Color Creme Tattoo Gel Shadow in Bad to Bronze...topping off lashes with Colossal Volume mascara
Highlighter on the eyes...under the brow and as a cat's eye at the corner of the outer eye...and pop under the center...Studio Color Tattoo Creme Gel Shadow in Barely Extended

every model gets double (triple) checked by the lead make-up artist-at every show, fyi.

Serious make-up kits...!

The make-up worked on several different skin tones-as pictured...

no room backstage...but lots of activity

Nails by lead manicurist Honey---rocked. Unlike most of the Fall 2013 shows we attended-where nails were one solid color (vs Spring 2013)...black acrylic paint (really-dries fast)---was carefully hand painted on nails in the design pictured below...

Diamond shape with a border- painted on each nail---that was covered in a glossy pink (Born With It)....

we thought Honey's nails very awesome too!

Honey's nails...masterpiece of black gold---painting design over natural shaped nail-beds.
